March 2024 HS/MS Principals Report

As we approach the much-awaited spring break, I would like to provide an update on the recent activities and upcoming events at Dove Creek High School/Middle School.

The winter sports season has concluded, and I am proud to report that our girls' basketball team brought home a 5th-place finish from the state tournament. Also, I would like to congratulate the wrestlers who competed at the state wrestling tournament and give a shout-out to Teagan Larimore for bringing home an individual 5th-place medal.  All of our athletes have exhibited dedication and perseverance, reflecting positively on our school community.

The FFA organization has been actively involved in hosting FFA Week, which proved to be a resounding success. The week was filled with engaging events such as "Driving Your Tractor to School," a district-wide breakfast, and special events for the middle school students throughout the week. They also competed in the Quiz Bowl. These events fostered a sense of camaraderie among students and staff alike, further enhancing the spirit of our school.

During the past month, sophomores and juniors participated in the ASVAB test. This assessment provides valuable insights into students' aptitudes and career interests, aiding them in making informed decisions about their future pathways.

We have several noteworthy events lined up in the coming weeks:

  • Parent-Teacher Conferences: Scheduled for Wednesday, March 13th, from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm, these conferences offer an opportunity for constructive dialogue between educators and parents to support student success.

  • Spring Break: From March 18th to March 21st, students and staff will enjoy a well-deserved break, rejuvenating themselves for the remainder of the academic year.

  • State Testing in April: Our school will embark on the state testing journey in the month of April, ensuring adherence to academic standards and assessing student proficiency.

  • Mental Health Day: Organized by STUD, a day dedicated to mental health awareness and well-being will be observed, underscoring the importance of holistic student support.

  • Science Class Field Trips: Two exciting field trips are on the horizon for our science classes. One trip will take students to Cortez to explore the "Little Shop of Physics," while another expedition will lead them to the Lowell Observatory in Arizona, offering invaluable insights into astronomy.

I hope everyone has a fun, safe, and relaxing spring break. Take care.

Mr. Baughman
